The scenes are as beautiful as they are emotive. The progress of Tanabata and Fas-ang’s courtship mirrored that of trials and tribulations in farming. The early shots of their budding relationship were highlighted by the use of sunny and hopeful humour. It is then contrasted by tones of despair through elements of rain and dark disposition at later shots. The last scene of Tanabata waiting for nothing likens that of a farmer longing for the season to bring forth good harvest. All in all, the actors showed stellar performances. Never have I seen a Japanese speaking Ilocano. Tanabata’s Wife is an official entry of the 2018 Tofarm Film Festival. @tofarmfilmfest is an advocacy-driven film festival which showcases the lives, journeys, trials and triumphs of the Filipino Farmer.
